Failed Back Surgery Syndrome
Post Lami Pain Low Back and Leg Radiculopathy
Kathleen is a 65 year old female suffering from failed back surgery syndrome. She experienced excruciating pain in her lower back and down her left leg into her ankle for 38 years. Her pain began initially after her first child was born. She underwent her first 2 back surgeries in the 1980's which did help her pain for some time. In the 1993 she suffered a work related accident at which time she fell off a ladder. Her pain became unbearable and she sought pain management. She ultimately ended up on a high dose of pain medication. Before she met Dr. Pyles, she had an older technology spinal cord stimulator implanted. Her stimulator worked and relieved her pain initially but overtime it didn't take care of her pain as well. She had the stimulator removed in 2001. She met Dr. Pyles and had a spinal cord stimulation trial with the newer technology system in November of 2011. She was very pleasantly surprised at the differences between the 2 systems. She reported 100% pain relief and said the newer system "felt way smoother" than the older system. Kathleen stated "this was the best she's felt in 31 years!" She had her permanent system implanted in December of 2011 and couldn't be happier. She still experiences 100% pain relief and was able to significantly reduce her pain medications.
