Thomas completed the summer show jumping season on a high note, by winning two ribbons at the prestigious Hampton Classic. One of the ribbons was won in the 'classic' finale while he managed to finish third in a qualifying round two days earlier - when I wasn't there.
In my excitement (combined with the fact that I had arrived there early that morning having driven out from the city and hadn't slept) I stopped filming before the actual 'jump off' took place. So what you are seeing in this clip is only the first part of the course, which a rider has to clear within a certain time, after which they then have to do another, shorter, faster session called the 'jump off'. The rider with the fastest time and least faults comes first.
All in all this was a great showing for Thomas, demonstrating that the hard work put in over the summer at all the other shows paid off.
In this class Thomas won with our horse Prosper, while in the qualifier he won with the horse that we lease (he rides two horses per class). On both occasions he won with the horse the went second, which is not unusual as a rider will tend to benefit from the experience he gains from the first session.
