James Franco shines. Pale Alto, the first movie of Gia Coppola, is based on a story in his collection of short stories. He also directed Child of God, based on the Cormack McCarthy's 1973 novel, which deals with necrophilia. Terry Gillian's Zero Theorem is among the most anticipated movies this year. It stars Christoph Waltz as a mad scientist, who lives in a church, and searches in vain for the meaning of life. Also, Steven Knight brings his second feature Locke to Venice, a difficult low budget movie shot entirely in a car. Parkland is the debut of American director Peter Landesman, starring Zach Efron and Paul Giamatti, about the aftermath of JFK assassination in Dallas.
