- Nominated for a Northwestern Regional Emmy® -
Springtime in Northwestern Alaska, brings Nordic skiing to students in the Arctic through a non-profit program that gives participants a reason to get outside and play in the negative temperatures.
Working as the Video Production Manager at Piksik (piksik.com), I traveled into the NANA region to shoot coverage of NANANordic. Shooting in both Kotzebue and Kivalina, the student's wore smiles and no jackets as they learned to ski in -5F weather (the windchill was -30F). My mic, a Sennhesier 416k, froze up long before the student's spirits did. (The Canon C100 handled the cold without any issue. Though occasionally snot from my runny nose would freeze instantly as it dripped onto the LCD screen.)
