Before there was an Internet, visionaries speculated on advanced databased linked sophisticated communications systems. This evening’s guest speaker, T. Russell Shields, is one of those visionaries. Over his 40+ year career, he has specialized in putting related concepts into practice, creating and developing multiple companies and new industries based on innovative software and technology based services. His discussion of his business experience will provide insights into such topics as:
· The development of rapid and robust data management and transaction processing systems.
· The outsourcing and automation of customer management on a global scale.
· The implementation of intelligent transportation systems and predictive technologies.
· The use of organizational adaptation to best fit resources to tasks.
The biography of Mr. Shields represents a lifetime of entrepreneurship.
He founded Shields Enterprises International (SEI) in 1969 following his education at Wichita State University earning a BA in Mathematics and the University of Chicago where he earned his Masters in History and MBA. With SEI he developed key information technology architecture for leading clients in both the private (Time Inc., TransUnion, Mototola, Budget Rent a Car, and McDonalds) and public sectors (U.S. Veterans Administration, Social Security Administration and CIA). SEI next expanded to support the back office of the cellular telephone industry in addition to location services and mapping/navigation. Navteq, its vehicle guidance unit, was sold to Nokia in 2008 in an $8.1 billion, all-cash transaction.
Mr. Shields serves as chairman of his current company, Ygomi LLC, which conducts worldwide partnerships with vehicle and automotive electronics manufacturers, employing 200 people in 9 countries. Among his many honors, Russell Shields was inducted as an inaugural member of the Intelligent Transport System World Congress Hall of Fame in 2010 and awarded the Chicago Booth Distinguished Alumni Award for Entrepreneurship in 2008.
