Brother Minlib Dallh’s lecture presented the life story and thought of Dominican friar Serge de Beaurecueil (d. 2005) who was one of the most significant French Catholic scholars of the mystical tradition of Islam. Brother Dallh explored how de Beaurecueil’s praxis mystica in dār al-Islam emerged from a radical sense of hospitality to and from the ‘religious other.’ Both his study of the writings of ‘Abdullah Ansārī of Herāt and his service among Kabul street children contributed to his learning about Islam and mystical practice. In the shadow of the minarets, he lived a genuine Christian discipleship nurtured by the mystical life. Regardless of the tensions, doubts and failures, he lived to the best of his ability the Dominican motto of contemplata aliis tradere.
