This is the video version of a sketch: in other words, it seeks to quickly capture an impression.
This project was assigned and due within 24 hours and uses over 300 photographs. The prompt was: name a place in Rome you'd like to go, travel there on your own, and gather observations using a specific method of looking.
The video is organized into two halves. The first half is one photo per step, tracking the experience of climbing over 130 steps (I never got a full count). The second half of the video is one photo every five minutes for about two hours, tracking the patterns of light and shadow that move across the steps.
Taking over 300 photographs of a staircase garnered some curious onlookers. After observing this process for almost 45 minutes, one person came up to me and asked, "avete il tempo?"
In the end, time is what this video was trying to capture. Did I have the time after all?
