After we enacted another emergency immersion procedure…zipping up drysuits and jumping in to cool, we rolled in and went our separate ways, until we re-grouped at this particular gathering spot.
These slugs were big, fat and extra bright in color. They really seemed to like the “fuzzy” part of the bull kelp, and they were also covering the rocky algae area; some were clearly in an amorous mood.
Other highlights include several big Scrippsia pacificas, some nice Rockfish, Sheephead, schools of Senoritas, Blacksmiths, some nice Blood Stars and the usual colorful Bat Stars. I think I spied a few Blue Rockfish too. We did our second dive in the same area, were I found a fishing pole within the first few minutes, so I carted it around for the rest of the dive – the reel, had been full of fishing line and was unraveling and spreading. The viz was pretty good, and it was nice to see the various shades of blue and yellow depending on if you were near/under kelp canopy.
