Andrea Vogler, a lead tutor on the OrffUK Summer School 2013 held at Edge Hill University, leads a performance of Bamboo Tamboo music.
Her workshops explored a variety of genres/creative starting points including story-telling, soundscapes, junk percussion, drumming circles, and authentic world music grooves from Latin America and Africa; with plenty of opportunity for improvisation and composition.
There was also the chance to take a fresh look at the creative potential of ‘ordinary’ classroom percussion instruments, discovering new ways to create sounds with specialist instrumental techniques.
"Andrea Vogler also created an atmosphere where I felt comfortable to give it a go despite having no confidence in my musical ability."
Since graduating from the RNCM Andrea’s career has developed along two parallel paths as a creative practitioner and freelance percussionist. She trained as an outreach musician with the Halle and Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestras; and currently delivers percussion workshop training for clients including Royal Northern College of Music, Manchester Metropolitan University PGCE courses, Live Music Now, and Cheshire East Music Service. As a creative practitioner her workshop highlights include a 5 month community residency in the Shetland Islands, writing and recording wake-up calls for NASA’s International Space Station, and directing the world’s first Bucket-and-Spade Orchestra in Caernarfon.
