The word "Saysay" (pronounced sigh-sigh), is Tagalog for: having intrinsic value or meaning, and to declare. This project aims to engage the community to tell their stories, and to document these share stories. The purpose of the project is to highlight the contributions of Filipino Americans to U.S. life and culture - the labor workers in agriculture and fisheries in the first wave of migration; people in the military service; professionals such as nurses, teachers, doctors, accountants, and place makers in the U.S.
This program is presented by the Association for the Advancement of Filipino American Arts and Culture (FilAm ARTS), a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization. Embracing the value of KAPWA (shared being), FilAm ARTS' mission is to facilitate community synergy and transformation by advancing the understanding of the arts and cultural heritage of Filipinos in the United States through arts services, presentation, and education.
