As Remembrance Day draws near, one fascinating story demonstrates the sacrifice made by people of all backgrounds and ages in the Second World War. "The Children Who Fought Hitler" examines the history of the Commission's own staff who lived in Ieper in Belgium, but who were forced to flee from the Nazis in 1940.
Many of the pupils vowed to fight back against the Nazis and this is their story. In addition to the book, an accompanying film has been produced, which will be shown on BBC4 on Remembrance Sunday.
