Digitization is a part of a project called «Past present future archive» that examines a range of technologies and methods for the conservation, restoration, storage and safe-keeping of archival material.
The project aims to highlight the modern archives' peculiar duality, their temporality, durability, vulnerability and finitude. In addition, the project reflects upon future prospects of traditional paper archives in what is often called the age of digitization.
We are rapidly approaching a radically different culture of information and memory storage, and in this process it is perhaps more pressing than ever to contemplate what the modern archival institutions have been, what they are today, and what they may become.
«Past present future archive» provides an insight into modern archival practices and has been made possible with contributions from institutions and professionals with expertise in document management, technical conservation and laboratorial processing of archival material.
