During the PHmuseum journey to Brazil, we met Curator and Photographer Iatã Cannabrava, who talked about the current state of photography and his cultural production company Estudio Madalena (São Paulo, February 2013).
Iatã Cannabrava began his career as a cultural producer in 1989, presiding the Union of Photographers from São Paulo State. Cannabrava created projects like Photo São Paulo (2001) and People from São Paulo – A Hundred of Looks over a Antropofagic City (2004). Cannabrava coordinated the 1st and 2nd Latin American Photography Forum of São Paulo, promoted by Itaú Cultural in 2007 and 2010, and since 2006 leads the annual International Photography Festival Paraty em Foco. Since 2006, Cannabrava has been researching Brazilian modern photography and has curated the exhibition Modern For Ever. As a photographer, Iatã Cannabrava explores the transformation of cities through its architecture and social issues. Cannabrava has his work shown in over 40 exhibitions and has published eight books.
