Award-winning dance-theater trailblazer Sean Dorsey returns to the stage with this powerful new work. The Secret History Of Love is an evening-length suite of dances that reveals the underground ways that LGBT people managed to survive and love one another in decades past, despite tremendous obstacles.
Dorsey has attracted national acclaim and audiences from Los Angeles to New York for his signature dance-narrative style - and has made history as an openly transgender modern dance choreographer. The Secret History Of Love features a powerful fusion of full-throttle dance, riveting storytelling, oral history interviews, physical theater and original music.
The Secret History Of Love was created from a 2-year national LGBT Elders Oral History Project and extensive archival research. The voices and life stories of LGBT seniors that Dorsey recorded are heard and seen onstage.
A stellar cast of 5 dancer-performers embody these historic narratives -- expressing intimate accounts of violence, first love, risk, loss and enduring relationships. The audience is immersed in a lush, multi-layered soundscore featuring multiple voices, life stories and original music.
The first work of its kind in the US, The Secret History Of Love received major national commissions and is touring to cities including Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Miami, Santa Cruz, Chico, Claremont, Philadelphia, Tampa, Atlanta, Washington DC and San Antonio.
