SOME RECENT PICTURES / a journal., 2013. Unique artist book, 8.75 x 11.25 x 1.5 inches, 124 pages (laser prints, instant film, tape, post notes, ink and marker on paper), hand bound in dyed japanese linen with hard cover, presentation box and colophon with index.
SOME RECENT PICTURES / a journal., belongs to an ongoing body of work called RECENT PICTURES, which gathers material in the form of photographs, laser work prints, instant film, notes, and text citations and re-photography during the editing process, all gathered in my studio over the course of several years.
Continuing with several ideas developed in residency at The Center for Photography at Woodstock (Glasco Turnpike, 2010) and the Artist-in-Residence program at the Studio Museum in Harlem (STUDIO WORK, 2010 - 2011), RECENT PICTURES brings together studio and snapshot photography, portraiture and still lifes in a way to explore the tenuousness of personal impulse in art-making and the influence of both literary and photographic genres and types as platforms for understanding production, reception and interpretation of works -- the diary, the letter, the published (autobiographical) fiction alongside the snapshot, the photograph shared in intimate sites, and the formal portrait.
SOME RECENT PICTURES / a journal. is a unique edit of material gathered this July - August while in residency at FIAR Fire Island Artist Residency in Cherry Grove, Fire Island, NY. The material included dates from 2009 - 2013. An excerpt of this project was presented in a solo exhibition at the Clough-Hanson Gallery at Rhodes College (Memphis) in January - February 2013, with a selection of a dozen large scale pigment prints and two site-specific collages.
