The Sweat Everyday Active Balanced Adventure series features co-founder Sacha Simmons as she travels across the country with the Millennial Trains Project (MTP). MTP is a non-profit organization that leads crowd-funded transcontinental train journeys that empower diverse groups of enterprising and civic-minded Millennials to explore America's new frontiers.
Sacha's project focuses on how everyday people are living active and balanced lifestyles outside of the traditional gym. Instead of using food/cooking as a theme for a travel show (how typical!), fitness and wellness is our lens for exploring the world.
The first episode of Active Balanced Adventure series begins in San Francisco. Sacha is a Yellow Belt in Krav Maga and takes a Ground Fighting class with Cat (Check out her blog post about Krav Maga: c2sees2.wordpress.com/2013/06/11/lessons-from-krav-maga-fight-to-walk-in-peace/). She then interviews Barny Foland, the owner of Krav Maga SF (kravmaga-sf.com/about/). He describes the importance of knowing basic self defense and training to stay calm and focused in stressful situations. He welcomes students from all over the world at the training facility- as long at they bring a t-shirt from their school!
Sacha also goes to sweat at the Fitness Court at the Marina (nationalfitnesscampaign.com/thefitnesscourt.html). The Fitness Court was first opened in San Francisco in 1979 as part of the National Fitness Campaign as an open-air, full body workout "facility".
Have you ever tried Krav Maga or any other self defense training? Have you exercised at a Fitness Court?
