HRH The Prince of Wales is the Patron of the Temenos Academy - temenosacademy.org - a charitable trust dedicated to offering education in philosophy and the arts in the light of the sacred traditions of the East and West. "Temenos" means "a sacred precinct." It refers to those precincts in temples, churches, sacred spaces found in the outer world, but also to the one found within the human heart. The title of the Acadmy's first conference in over 20 years was "Ancient Springs: the Arts, the Imagination and Our World" and it was held at St Hilda's College, Oxford in September 2013. In his opening address, the Prince stressed the urgency with which the world needs to rediscover the principles and understanding that Temenos speaks for, and of his confidence that, despite the prevailing secular and materialistic tide that now sweeps so much of the modern world, the ripples Temenos creates, anchored as they are in the sacred, will make a difference and, against the odds, help turn such a deeply damaging tide.
