Embers of Time—for Tunisia by Ayman Tartir (AYMAN)
The original music video from January 2011
This song was composed in reaction to the Jasmine Revolution, the first of the popular uprisings in North Africa leading to the period of widespread unrest titled the "Arab Spring" of 2011. Embers of Time was finished, recorded, and released to YouTube just ten days after the flight of Tunisian president Ben-Ali from power on January 14, 2011. The song was set to a topical collection of photos documenting the Tunisian Revolution, borrowed from an online photo montage by the Boston Globe titled "An uprising in Tunisia". Embers of Time was well received, getting thousands of hits on YouTube in its first weeks from Tunisians and Americans alike.
The original description read:
"I dedicate this song, in light of their recent revolution, to the people of Tunisia. This piece from my 'Suite of the Forgotten Times' contemplates the melancholy sentiments of turmoil in the upheaval and incites notions of hope for a better tomorrow."
Embers of Time was later re-recorded and made the title track of AYMAN's 2013 studio album of the same name.
