This talk is about how the role and responsibility of a programmer will change. For software development not applicable for outsourcing, the future will require programmers that have the skill and the will to understand “The Big Picture”, being more like product developers and thinking customer development.

The computer can do much of what your logical and mathematical brain can do, but much faster. Programmers in Asia and Eastern-Europe can do much of what you can do, but at a much lower cost. Don´t worry, you won´t lose your job just yet.

With the rapidly increasing number of fast growing new companies challenging existing companies, changing marketplaces and decreasing the lifespan of products and services, large organizations will need to reinvent it self more often. This kind of disruptive innovation contains no mathematical formulas for the computer to solve. No requirement specifications to be outsourced to Asia or Eastern-Europe. No way to predict, or buy, success.

Lean Startup and other similar methods for new product development, will be the rescue for such large organizations when facing a potential “Kodak Moment”.

Business decisions will become more data-driven, and we will need your help to capture data needed and to read it. Design decisions will be made by A/B-testing and other impact-oriented testing techniques, rather than some UX-expert or graphical designer dictating the best solution.
