Keweenaw Fault Discussion, 1885

Bill Rose

The Idea of the Keweenaw Fault was the result of an important discussion and arguement by geologists, done when geology was a very young science, full of uncertainty (it still is!). The keweenawan rocks were obscured by vegetation and glacial cover, and didn't offer easy consensus for those geologists who struggled to understamd, motivated by the possible riches of abundant copper. This is a view into an important report summarizing where this issue was in the 1880s.
