The image depicted is the one of three videos that will play simultaneously in a loop, while each video projects on an individual wall. The throwing of the face paint is a direct reference to the abstract expressionist movement. For me, I view the face paint as a reference to make up, the female as the canvas, and the idea of bodily male projections. Abstract Expressionism is known for consisting of predominantly male artists who aggressively experimented with paint, whether it was splattering it across a large canvas, digging into the paint with the stick end of a paintbrush, or painting rudimentary figures. I wanted to echo the use of a large canvas by projecting each image on a separate wall. The female gaze is undeniably present in the beginning and the end of the film and the little nuances of the figure crying, blinking, inhaling paint, and smirking are all accentuated because of the size. I chose a more quiet sound scape with ambient noise and and the repetitive squirting. I wanted the imagery , the transformation, and the emotion to be the most important part of the piece. I also left some of the squirting sounds out because the questioning of went the violent squirting sounds will appear, leave an element of surprise and aggression.
