In Aug 2011, I did a Solo trip to the Arfak Mountains in West Papua looking for the other worldly Birds of Paradise. I spent five days walking around in the mountains and what I experienced in those rainforests was nothing short of magic. I watched the male Western Parotia put up a ballerina act to woo three females and stumbled upon fungi of all shapes and colors. The architectural ingenuity of Bower birds bowled me over, as did those giant ferns. It was an experience of a lifetime.
