Inca (Quechua, Inca, 'king' or 'prince') rulers generic name of Cuzco, with equivalence sovereign, who established a vast empire in the Andes in the fifteenth century, shortly before the conquest of the New World by the Spanish. The name also applies by extension to all subjects of the Inca Empire or Incas. Inca is, archaeologically, the name of a culture and pre-Hispanic period.
The Inca Empire was a theocracy based on agriculture and the ayllu system or kinship groups, dominated by the Inca, who was worshiped as a living god.
