Monica Perez Garcés had big plans for her life in the United States before she was forced to move back to her hometown of Tenancingo, Mexico. She had been living in Minnesota for four years, and had been accepted to an American university. Unable to afford the price of college in the U.S., Monica returned to Mexico to continue her education.
Upon returning home, Monica brought back with her new experiences and a new obsession: American football. She became the founding recruiter for an unprecedented all-female flag football league in Tenancingo. For most of the women in the league the sport is entirely new, practices consist of fundamentals of football rules and strategy, basic skills and practicing plays. Monica says her love of football is a little piece of America that she brought back with her, and she is happy it has been met with such enthusiasm.
