Mt Batur is located in the northern part of Bali, and is still an active volcano.
Elevation: 1,717m; last eruption: 2000.
We were picked up from the hotel at 1:30a; the car ride to Kitamani was about 2.5 hr.
We started the hike at ~4a; other hikers were already there and we were the last group.
Our guide was pretty confident that we would get there in time for the sun rise.
It was not a tough hike, but not easy either.
Some parts were pretty steep but most of the way to the top was fairly easy.
Of course hiking in the dark added some challenges, even though we had torch lights.
We were rewarded with a spectacular sun rise over the sea of clouds.
One of the best that we have seen.
