Anke Kuiper of WILPF (Women's International League of Peace & Freedom) runs for Aletta Jacobs during the Vredesloop (Peace Run) in The Hague. September 21, 2013 - the final event of the official Peace Palace Centenary Program of the Dutch Carnegie Foundation. Aletta Jacobs was an important peacebuilder who organized an international delegation of over 1000 women to come to The Hague in 1915 in an effort to stop World War I. The flag, Pro Concordia Labor ("For Peace I Work"), was created in 1897 as a symbol for anyone working on behalf of humanity, universal brotherhood, cosmopolitan values and a notion of 'patriotism' that transcends 'state loyalty'. The colors were chosen so that the flag would not be confused with any other nation's flag.
