In 2008 I was the only insider to have had the opportunity to stay and film inside the summer training camp of “Nashi”, Vladimir Putin’s radical youth movement, known for using violence against Putin’s opponents. Inside the summer trainingcamp of Nashi, 10.000 young Russians were being ideologically prepared to make Russia the global leader of the 21-st Century.
Nashi II is a four-screen installation without text, but with a sound composition. The viewer steps into an installation that physically surrounds the viewer, and places him in the middle of the camp. The works questions the role of the individual within this mass movement and shows how a seemingly innocent summer camp can become an important tool for indoctrination and radicalization.
