On September 20, 2013, Jai's Fashion Lounge Orlando featured fashion designs by Bethany Mikell. A native of Orlando, Bethany designs both womenswear and menswear, with a focus on sustainability and “slow fashion”. She also creates custom textiles, producing both digital prints on a computer and handwovens on a floor loom. The Spring/Summer 2014 womenswear collection featured fabrics in natural fibers (cotton, linen, silk and wool), and about 75% are sustainably-sourced. Fabrics featured are organic cottons and cotton blends, lightweight wools, and vintage dead-stock silk lace from the 1940s-50s. The geometric seamlines are inspired by the Cross of Lorraine, a nod to Joan of Arc. This collection is the story of the journey of a woman, a modern-day crusader.
