This is the first video project that I am uploading to YouTube. In this video, I am demonstrating the first seven exercises of the Pilates primary mat series.
At the beginning of this video, I have just completed a 15 minute kettle-bell progressive swing workout, and I am about to begin my daily Pilates mat practice. I do these exercises every day, usually as the second half of a two-part, thirty minute workout. Since beginning my commitment to both the kettle-bell workout and the Pilates mat workout, I have noticed a significant reduction in the frequency and intensity of chronic lower back pain; I have also noticed improvements in core strength that extend beyond this workout to improved performance in other sport (dance) activity.
In this video, the modifications are designed to make these exercises both accessible and safe for everyone across a range of athletic ability. Pilates should never become "easy"; as you advance, your level of mental engagement deepens your mind-body connection. Therefore, when approached with the right level of mental awareness, even the least of these exercises may provide adequate challenge.
