Our social relations are increasingly mediated by data and data turns our social relations into digital relations. One of the largest platforms mediating digital relations today is facebook.
This documentary looks at the social mechanics of facebook and it's effect on society. We examine the motivations and personality traits that influence Irish facebook usage.
We approached the piece with the idea of mixing both quantitative and qualitative research in the forms of statistics and expert opinion. To gather statistical information specific to Ireland we used facebook analytics tools. To gather greater behavioural statistics we conducted an independent survey of over 1300 students. The results are quite revealing.
