This video shows blasting of some very hard granite at the Briman Reservoir site. This granite could not be broken by Hoe-rams, which are hydraulic hammers attached to the boom of track hoes. This two phase blast uses aproximately 400 kg of high explosives to fracture the rock so it can be removed to bring the site down to final elevation. I took this video from aproximately 1500 meters away with my Canon 60d w/ 135 mm zoom on a tripod. I didn'k know there was going to be a secondary blast until I heard the warning siren, so it was shot hand held. The first blast was a little more powerful so it had the blasting matts placed over it to suppress fly rock.
