Two species of beautiful shiny black bees have been busy pollinating the grey nickerbean plants (Caesalpinia bonduc) on Munyon Island. I made this little video to show how similar they appear. The first is a fat, happy southern carpenter bee (Xylocopa micans). The second is the carpenter-mimic leafcutter bee (Megachile xylocopoides) which is from a completely different family but mimics the carpenter bee in appearance.
