Nepal - Manaslu Circuit Trek | Part II: Kathmandu to Soti Khola
Part III: vimeo.com/75912630
After 2 hours of sleep, we started our journey in a taxi which brought us to the Gongabun busstation in Kathmandu. We boarded the bus and started the 10-hours ride towards Arughat. After taking a short rest, having Dhal Bhat, buying some fruits and snacks, we continued the bumpy ride to Arughat. The bus stopped uncountable times. It was the day of the Shivaratri-Festival. Therefore, children construct roadblocks and ask for small donations, before they let the cars pass. In the evening we reached Arughat where we stayed the first night. Next morning we set off to cope with the first stage of the Manaslu trek. It takes along the Buri Gandaki river to the foot of the 8163m high Mount Manaslu. The circumnavigation of the eight highest mountain in the world is done with the crossing of the Larkya Pass, north of Manaslu. Our team consisted of our guide and friend Prakash Kaji Dangol as well as the two porters Mingma Tamang and Bir Bahadur Gurung. They should accomplish the incredible effort to carry our and their own luggage on the difficult path to the 5100m high Larkya Pass.
We passed through many small villages, where people pursue their daily work.
Stones are ground and wood is cut in order to build houses. Ricewine, also called as Roksi, is produced in every household. The dead are traditionally burned and the remains are carried away by the river.
In the schools, morning roll calls are executed before the class begins. Once we arrived in Soti Khola, we ate dinner and enjoyed ourselves with the kids who enjoyed the simple things in life.
