This is a beautiful video I made for 'The Sundays'. We shot at an outdoor tank somewhere on the outskirts of London where we built a platform over a dive pool for people to jump off. The height was about 4 metres, just enough to be scared, and the pool was lit in such a way that you couldn't see how far down it was when you leapt. We went around the streets inviting people to come and do the jump, anyone, especially those who thought it a challenge and we mixed them up with the confidence and grace of some professional divers. So many people came along to take the leap; friends, family, my Mother with the rose in her mouth, everyone from the Black Dog office, Jerry Butler even turned up and put on a turn and thats me somersaulting at the end! We had a great night of shooting and jumping off things into the water. The whole idea was to capture reactions to the point at which one released oneself into the unknown, that point of letting go, to make emotional parallels with the sentiments of the song which I believe was written about someone passing away...the nice thing about it is that we never see anyone hit the water, jump after jump suspends an ending.
