“Days Away” documents the story of a medical expedition boat on the Ampiyacu River. In this film volunteers from England, Germany, Peru, Scotland, and the United States bring care to communities living in the Amazon rainforest that would otherwise have none.
The story takes place in the northern Peruvian Amazon, one of the last true wilderness areas of the world. There are no roads; rivers are to only means of transportation. Medical expeditions, such as the one in the film, are the lone source of medical care for thousands of small communities in the rainforest. Without these expeditions families travel for days to reach basic medical aid.
