An eventful race! At 19m 15s Brett runs wide at Pouhon and Neil follows suit but then loses it on the damp Astroturf. As a result he then spears off towards the left hand barrier into the path of Jamie who attempts avoiding action but has nowhere to go. A big impact between Neil and Jamie then follows with both cars then bouncing across the track and into my path. I seem to make light contact with Neil's car whilst trying to weave my way through the aftermath but unfortunately I have heavier contact with Jamie's already broken suspension. After coming to a halt I was not expecting to be able to continue but ever the optimist I drop the clutch and move off. The car was miraculously still drivable and seemingly unaffected apart from a spongy brake pedal and missing wing (after the race it was discovered I had a broken wheel but somehow the tyre stayed up!)
Later at 30m 18s, and whilst I am leading the race into Les Combes, Brett attempts a pass but there is contact which sends him into the RH barrier, ending his race. Later still, whilst leading in the closing laps my clutch begins to slip due to oil contamination and I have to carefully nurse the car to gain the best traction. This is helped by the fact that the track is becoming more and more wet due to drizzle and so the clutch in not under so much pressure to grip. Tom Overton then catches and passes me at this point but the Red Flag is shown later that same lap meaning I get the win! I was sorry for Tom as it is special to win at Spa but he seemed happy with second and a very smiley Mike Rowland was 3rd. Commiserations to all who suffered damage in the race, especially those that could not start race 2 as a result. I know how that feels!!
