On October 1, 2013, uninsured Americans will have the opportunity to navigate the new government subsidized health insurance plans via online exchanges in each state. Covered California estimates that nearly 1.4 million Californians will sign up in 2014. But will we be ready by October 1st? California is considered one of the most crucial states for enrollment efforts and is rushing to train 20,000 enrollment counselors and certify almost 12,000 insurance agents to sell the new health plans. However, technological delays and political resistance may indicate we are not fully prepared. Dr. Gerald Kominski, a renowned health care reform expert, will discuss the results of the October 1 opening day and what to expect for the California Health Exchange in 2014.
