When Sue Maclean lived on the Wirral she held a very successful Child of the Year Awards ceremony annually, and when she moved her she decided to do the same in Scunthorpe.
People were asked to nominate children that they felt were deserving of winning the award. They might have done something amazing, selfless, above and beyond, overcome illness or tragedy, supported or cared for someone or maybe even saved a life. This years event at Reeds Hotel built on the event's previous success and saw many exciting surprises lined up for the guests, including a visit from Eastenders superstar Scott Maslen and special guest hosts Jim and Rosie from Viking FM.
Every child nominated is made to feel special. They are invited to the ceremony where they receive a certificate, a medal and a gift. As well as the main award there will be other awards given out too. Celebrity guests are there to give out the awards, whilst food and entertainment is provided for the children, their families and their guests. Children are made to feel like Princes and Princesses for the day.
We are trying to raise funds to make this event as spectacular as the children deserve it. Events are being planned in coming months, so if anyone can help by volunteering their services either free or at a reduced rate it would be appreciated and of course they will get free publicity for doing this. The guests who attend this event are truly inspirational, and we look forward to seeing the event being built upon year after year into the long term future.
