Support new writing and independent theatre in Adelaide
Your support will go towards the production budget of THE LAKE, by Ben Brooker. All monies raised will have a direct and tangible impact on the production. From sets and costumes, to lighting and props, your support will be seen on stage in our production.
The Lake was first read by five.point.one in The Reading Sessions 2012, before undergoing a two-week development period in July 2013. Its mix of black humour and terror will be brought to life by Edwin Kemp Attrill and a team of some of Adelaide’s brightest artists. The Lake is sure to be a production not to be missed.
THE LAKE will have its world premiere at Holden Street Theatre's The Arch, November 14 - November 23.
Vagrants Joseph and Karl inhabit a disgusting hovel in which time seems to have stopped. Outside, a climate gone haywire has triggered the storm of a lifetime. Again. Meanwhile, the telephone will not stop ringing. Joseph and Karl know what they have to do – put their nameless prisoner, held hostage in another room, to death – but seem to be running out of time. Their health and sanity begin to deteriorate under the strain of their undertaking and, to complicate matters, the sound of a passing train begins to pierce the long nights.
With an increasingly tenuous grasp on reality, and the very real danger their prisoner may not be able to be contained forever, Karl and Joseph are pushed to the brink. How much longer can they be sure just who are the victims, and who the real enemy is? Will they live long enough to be able to make sense of their almost forgotten place in a cold, dark universe?
