Kalopsia focuses on the mental fear of a modern woman attempting to ignore passion and primal urges in her life. It is implied that she has lost a love and the film follows her through daily motions in a barren desert environment, reflecting her sense of isolation. Toward the end of the film a dream sequence reveals her memories and the viewer can begin to piece together the consistent symbolic imagery and understand the pressure she faces to satisfy her urge to reproduce. The character is portrayed by two different actors to embody this concern of which many women feel anxiety. The woman's fears may be short-lived, but it is this immediate realization of the fragility of life and the limit of time, that consumes her.
The title draws from the contrary sense of appeal a viewer may have when viewing beautiful imagery of a somber theme.
