Like many young Zambian women, Mary Kapwamba was forced to abandon her education when she discovered that she was pregnant. She was devastated.
Without an education Mary’s only hope was to grow vegetables on a small plot of land to feed and clothe her baby.
Now, with six children and no tools to turn her field, Mary uses her hands to work the earth that her family depends on.
Despite the daily struggle to feed her family and pay for her children’s education, Mary and her community still hope for a brighter future.
A part of the My Community series, this film provides a unique insight in to the lives of rural women living in the Barotse Floodplain, an aquatic agricultural system in Zambia.
