Just Enough - Pastor Brian Smith
Psalm 119:105 “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path.”
God gives us just enough light for the next step or two.
“This Day with the Master” by Dennis Kinlaw
“One assumption Christians make is that God guides those persons who belong to Him. In fact, it is right for every child of God to expect this divine leadership. However, God does not provide direction for us by setting down His prearranged plan in all of its particular details. Although at times we long for more clarity, there is a reason for God’s secretive approach. If He informed human beings of every detail of His plan, we in our ignorance would focus on the plan instead of on Jesus. We would begin to build our lives around God’s purpose for us instead of around God himself. Christ did not come to call us to follow His ways; He has asked us to follow Him.”
“As Jesus was walking beside the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon called Peter and his brother Andrew. They were casting a net into the lake, for they were fishermen. “Come, follow me,” Jesus said, “and I will send you out to fish for people.” At once they left their nets and followed him. Going on from there, he saw two other brothers, James son of Zebedee and his brother John. They were in a boat with their father Zebedee, preparing their nets. Jesus called them, and immediately they left the boat and their father and followed him.”
Kinlaw says, “These two realities were to be the heart of Israel’s life: God’s presence and God’s Word. They were never to be separated, for the Word was the way into His presence.”
Jesus said to the people, “I am the light of the world. If you follow me, you won’t be stumbling through the darkness, because you will have the light that leads to life.” John 8:12
“…Enoch walked with God 300 years and had other sons and daughters. Altogether, Enoch lived 365 years. Enoch walked with God; then he was no more, because God took him away.” Genesis 5:22-24
“Noah was a righteous man, blameless among the people of his time, and he walked with God.” Genesis 6:9
Dennis Kinlaw, writes,“The walk did not come out of the righteousness and blamelessness. No! Blamelessness and righteousness came out of Noah’s walk with God.” (Dennis Kinlaw, April 15)
So, where is God leading you that you need to take the next step?
Sarah Young’s "Jesus Calling", July 14, “Keep walking with Me along the path I have chosen for you. Your desire to live close to Me is a delight to My heart…. All I require of you is to take the next step, clinging to My hand for strength and direction. Though the path is difficult… Stay on the path I have selected for you. It is truly the path of Life.
