Scorch is an experimental and abstract direct film animation. For this project I wanted to create a unique and engaging animation that combines aspects of Len Lye, Stan Brakhage and Norman McLaren's work. I have created a film using the very basic elements of film; movement, colour and light.
To create this film I took photos with a lomography camera and got the negatives developed. I then cut the negatives into 8mm wide strips and taped them all together. I scratched, etched and drew onto the film using a scalpel, permanent markers and graphite. I then projected my film strip using an old movie projector. I manually pulled the film through burning some parts and filmed this. I then succinctly linked my visuals to an audio score in order to create a connected coherent piece of work.
