Elina Brotherus is a Finnish photography and video artist who lives and works in Finland and France. Her early work dealt with subjective experiences, the presence and absence of love. Later she moved on to more formal issues in her series The New Painting. Brotherus’ current work is centered on the relation of the human figure and landscape, and on the gaze of an artist on his/her model.
Brotherus is exhibiting some of her work at The Photographers’ Gallery in London 11 October 2013 – 5 January 2014. She is a part of the exhibition Home Truths: Photography, Motherhood and Identity, an exhibition exploring representations of motherhood through the works of eight contemporary artists.
