Line Dances draws its primary inspiration from the paintings and drawings of Bauhaus Master, Paul Klee. These vignettes are tributes to the world of the theatre and its artifice. Good Company Arts presented three major works for the Bauhaus University Facade at Genius Loci Weimar Festival 2013. This famous building is referred to as the cradle of the Bauhaus Movement. The Main Building designed by Henry Van de Velde in 1904, is a place where Bauhaus history and present day life overlap with one another. It is the original building in which Walter Gropius started the Bauhaus school. Today it is used by the Bauhaus University for architecture, civil engineering, design and media studies.
As preparation for our large scale video projections for this site, Daniel Belton worked with two company artists in our Dunedin studio in New Zealand. This process involved the upscaling from DV to HD of original dance film material and resulted in four reworked pieces. This is the master video that was projected across the facade on Sunday 11th August, 2013.
One delightful coincidence was the stars appearing above the Bauhaus Main Building as it became dark, and the interplay between constellations of the night sky with our point and line animations. A comet graced the moment - it was as if the heavens were talking back to us, and the collaboration extended out to the cosmos.
