The District and its children are very excited about the PROJECT FIT AMERICA Program. The official Opening Day Celebration was conducted in the Pulaski Street School gymnasium after rain forced the event inside. Riverhead is the FIRST SCHOOl in the State of New York to win a grant for this amazing fitness program. The realization of the program was due to a partnership between Project Fit America, the Peconic Bay Medical Center and the Suffolk County Lions Club Diabetes Education Foundation. Both PBMC and the Lions contributed $60,000 each to finance the implementation of the program at all four of the District's elementary schools and the Pulaski Street School. In addition the Brickman Group provide the installation and landscaping of the outdoor equipment area at each school.
CEOs and representatives from our partnering groups, school administrators, Board of Education members, coaches, students from all of our elementary schools, the HS Pep Band, RHS Cheerleaders, Rippy the Blue Wave Mascot, QuackerJack from the LI Ducks, a representative from Planet Fitness, and many members of the media were present to celebrate this community partnership and program. Students from each of the schools demonstrated the equipment.
