Sample of a Case Study for Microsoft and Baltika Breweries.
Microsoft sent us to St. Petersburg to create a video case study of how Russia's largest beer brewer was using SQL Server to drive their operations. The resulting video was featured on Microsoft's global web site and promoted to partners and customers.
I really enjoyed this shoot. It was my first trip to Russia. I wish the production schedule had given me a little more time to see St. Petersburg. This was shot in August and there was still a bit of the White Nights going on. The sky just sort of stayed at twilight all night long. I walked around after the shoot wrapped each day and could see these wonderful historic treasures like The Hermitage museum, but didn't have time to go in.
This was another two-man team like the New York shoot of Mediterranean Shipping Company. Except, where in NY we were paired up with a kick ass local mini-crew, on this one DP Andreas Garreton and I were a little less satisfied with the Russian crew's work ethic.
One time we were shooting in a distant part of the facility and we asked a guy to run back and grab a blank tape for the camera. Ten minutes later he comes back with ONE tape. I tell this to anyone who's ever worked on an American crew and they crack up laughing. (On a US crew anyone who did this would be mentored-with-a-vengeance to bring at least 2 or 3 tapes so they wouldn't have to run back again.) Another tip for anyone shooting in Russia--bring your own gaffer's tape and showcard. For some reason these film set staples were conspicuously absent. (Oh the Russian crews knew what they were, they just wouldn't give us any.) Kind of like a kitchen with no salt or pepper.
