What produces an individual? How much should we disclose to others and how do we know if and when we are sharing too much about ourselves? What experiences are we afraid of? Can we entirely understand ourselves? Should we entirely understand ourselves? How do we introduce ourselves to new people?
In this piece, I explore notions of self: both internal self and outer self through a durational context. I slowly remove an individual marking of self as a computer-generated voice lists individual characteristics of my personality. Many of these characteristics are common, and others may share these same traits. Some of these traits are extremely personal, and rarely shared by others. This piece provides a glimpse of who I am and what has influenced my life. It is impossible to comprehend one’s self entirely; it does not and cannot explain who I am altogether. The future will certainly hold new experiences that will continue to change my personality, appearance, and beliefs. An individual is constantly growing, changing, shifting, and evolving.
