Being thirteen in the “Ruhrpott” region today means growing up in a strange world – strange and unsettling. People talk about rising sea levels; there’s money for banks but not for libraries; cities are faced with massive demolition campaigns as a result of soaring vacancy rates. Being thirteen today means having every reason to change the world. Which is where pottfiction – theater, art and camps for young people in the metropolitan region – comes in: You want to change the world? Then do it!
In conjunction with the Ruhr’s designation as a 2010 European Capital of Culture, pottfiction spent a year working on this question. With the help of seven youth theaters, young people aged 13–21 developed methods and structures for bringing their real environments closer to their ideals. We designed a visual identity and served as artistic directors for the two camps.
