Production: Janina Bahlmann, Julia Kuzminska and Anika Fenske
This movie was produced during the workshop "Being Visitors - Becoming Producers", that took place in the Världskulturmuseet of Gothenburg from 29.09.2013 until 12.10.2013: becomingproducers.eu .
Talking about the identity crisis of the museum, being a normal state of mind, inspired us to use this topic as a basic idea for our movies. The question of identity is mostly connected to the future of every human being: What will happen to me? Which decisions and risks shall I take? As we learned in Liseberg, institutions also have an „identity“, or a „DNA“, meaning: this questions have to be discussed and decisions have to be made in a collective and also political way.
The Världskulturmuseet came up to us, asking questions that may be characteristic for an identity crisis, such as: How can we bring back the objects? How do we bring in visitors? How can we make them come back or stay for a longer time? How can we make them participate?
We think that it is this crisis-issue, not knowing how to deal with certain problems, which somehow connects the museum and its visitors. This is why we created two small video drafts for a provicing campaign, that shall generate the idea of participation were it happens today: in the social media. Dealing with its weaknesses or uncertainties via this campage, the museum would at the same time confront the visitors with its own questions:
How do they want to participate? How far would the museum like open its doors?
